Apalachicola itinerary scene

Weekend itinerary

Two nights in Apalachicola

Walk Water Street Friday, connect the historic core to Scipio Creek Saturday, then browse Commerce and Market streets before Sunday checkout.

By Cal Mercer — a Second Star Guide itinerary

The weekend stays compact in town, with Eastpoint's estuary nature center treated as an optional separate drive.

Best length

2 nights

Two nights cover the compact town without turning the museums, squares, waterfront, and meals into a drive-through stop. Add a third night only for a substantial barrier-island or national-forest outing.

Stay

Gibson Inn

This 1907 downtown landmark pairs historic guest rooms with a wraparound porch, on-site restaurant and lounge, and walkable access to the working waterfront.

Main activity

Historic port and living estuary

The historic core is compact; the river, marsh, bay, and outer coast extend well beyond downtown.

Town and estuary

One full day in Apalachicola

Keep Saturday in town. The Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve (ANERR) Nature Center in Eastpoint is a separate Tuesday–Saturday extension.

Friday

Friday evening: the riverfront and a seafood table.

Check in, walk Water Street and the compact downtown blocks, then eat close enough to return to the room on foot.

4:00 PM

Saturday

Saturday: squares, museums, Scipio Creek, and sunset.

Follow the historic walking sequence, enter the museums that are open, then stop at Up The Creek Raw Bar if its current hours fit before seeing Scipio Creek's working docks in daylight.

8:30 AM

Breakfast

The Biscuit Factory is an option when posted morning hours fit.

Independent breakfast hours can be limited. Check the current Saturday or Sunday schedule before choosing a café.

1:00 PM

Afternoon

Lunch beside Scipio Creek, then see the working docks.

Up The Creek Raw Bar overlooks the creek and keeps lunch beside the afternoon's shrimp boats, marinas, seafood businesses, and estuary water. Confirm current hours before relying on it.
